A former state senator convicted of lying to the FBI will not get any jail time.
Thomas Libous was sentenced Tuesday to six months house arrest and two years probation.
Prosecutors say Libous lied about getting a job for his son at a Westchester law firm. They also say a lobbyist made secret payments to that firm.
The judge held back on jail time since Libous is suffering from terminal cancer.
Libous is appealing the conviction.
"This is about justice and giving people a fair share," he says. "At the end of the day, anybody could fall into the trap as I did."
Libous will also have to pay a $50,000 fine.
