A former Mamaroneck police detective has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against the police department, saying his good name is ruined.
Former Mamaroneck Detective Joseph Comblo and his attorney, Jonathan Lovett, announced the suit Thursday. The suit also names Police Chief Richard Rivera and Mayor Kathy Savolt.
Comblo filed for retirement a month early in March after about $24,000 went missing from an evidence locker in January. A week later, disciplinary charges were filed against him in the incident. The charges were dropped last week.
"Not only has my client's reputation been smeared for no legitimate reason, but the taxpayers' money [was] wasted again," says Lovett. "They had no case against my client."
Mayor Savolt declined to comment on the suit, saying she hasn't received it yet. However, she says she plans to launch an independent probe into the Mamaroneck Police Department.
