Former Spring Valley Deputy Mayor Joseph Desmaret will spend the next three years in prison in connection with the so-called Corridor of Corruption case.
Desmaret was sentenced in White Plains federal court Thursday on mail fraud and extortion charges.
The Democrat pleaded guilty last year to selling his vote in support of a development scheme proposed by an FBI informant.
Prosecutors say that deal was tied to an attempt to bribe Republican Party officials to get then-Democratic state Sen. Malcolm Smith onto the GOP ballot for New York City mayor.
Desmaret had cooperated with investigators early in the case, and tried to avoid jail time by offering information, but officials say it turned out he did not have much to offer.
However, the judge says he took into account that he tried to right his wrongs.
Desmaret will begin serving his sentence on Sept. 4. Upon his release, he will be on probation for two years.
