Crews in Yonkers are demolishing what’s left of several businesses that were destroyed by fire on Tuesday.
The strip mall on Yonkers Avenue was engulfed by flames around 6:30 a.m., and the fire raged out of control for nearly four hours.
The past 24 hours were devastating for people who lost their livelihoods.
Mohammed Saleh says he and his family pinched pennies for four years saving up for their American dream. They opened up Tibbets Park Mart at the location less than two years ago.
"Every person came out their way and tried to make a dream come true, and it did, but everything was gone in seconds overnight," says Saleh.
A laundromat, a dry cleaner and a former insurance office were also destroyed.
Officials say the flames started at the laundromat, but they're still investigating the exact cause.
The community started a GoFundMe page for these businesses.
