Westchester County continues to monitor the cleanup of about 1,000 gallons of gasoline that spilled in White Plains, some of it making its way into the Bronx River.

Officials say a tanker driver overfilled the fuel at a Citgo gas station Wednesday morning. Hazmat crews contained and cleaned up the gas in the streets, however, some fuel spilled into storm sewer run-off pipes, getting into the river. Booms were placed to soak up the gas and other absorbent material skimmed the water for more flammable liquid.

A private clean-up company is working with the Westchester County Health Department to monitor the booms. The company is credited with taking quick, effective measures after the accident to ensure the effects of the spill were not worse.
