Engineers examine Bronx River Parkway overpass
Traffic moved easier on the Bronx River Parkway for Tuesday evening's commute as engineers make repairs on an overpass.
Contractors arrived at the West Pondfield Road overpass at 8 a.m. Tuesday. They checked for loose stones and cracks after a chunk of concrete broke off Sunday and fell onto the parkway. Officials blame recent weather changes for the problem.
The parkway was closed southbound from Scarsdale to Palmer roads Monday, but officials opened one southbound lane Tuesday evening. Closures are expected again for Wednesday before the evening commute.
Meanwhile, former New York Gov. George Pataki and former Majority Leader Dick Gephardt joined others at Iona College Tuesday for a forum on the nation's aging infrastructure. They say prevention is key to maintaining roadways such as the aging Tappan Zee Bridge.
Pataki says the Bronx River Parkway has had its share of problems over the years and he believes the focus should be on preventing accidents.Click here for more on the infrastructure forum.
