Empire City in Yonkers ups the ante with more gaming machines
Westchester?s gambling mecca expanded Thursday when a new building opened at Empire City at Yonkers Raceway.
The second phase adds another 1,700 gaming machines, bringing the total up to more than 3,600 video lottery terminals for people to play. Officials hoped to have the new section open in October at the same time as the refurbished clubhouse. However, glitches in the construction prevented that from happening.
Officials hope to have the final touches completed by the end of January. When the casino is finished, there will be a total of 5,500 gaming machines. Officials say the casino is expected to generate $400 million for education in New York State.
