State Assemblyman George Latimer launched a campaign Tuesday to increase the number of people registering to donate their organs.
During a news conference in Port Chester's Carver Center, Latimer added his name to the list of potential organ donors in New York.
According to the New York Organ Donor Network, some 100,000 Americans are waiting for organs. However, last year fewer than 8,000 people donated their organs upon their death.
Charles Rosenberg, a Connecticut teacher, received a kidney transplant 38 years ago. Because of his experience, Rosenberg helped Latimer win adoption of a law that encourages college students to register as donors.
