An Eastchester police officer is recovering after being struck by an SUV during the town's annual Columbus Day Parade Sunday.
Officer Mike Ibarra was directing traffic when an SUV that was in the parade somehow lost control on Dempsey Place and hit three cars. The driver then turned onto Main Street and hit Ibarra, but not before the auxiliary officer swept aside a child.
Ibarra was treated for a head injury at Westchester Medical Center, but is currently back home with is family.
The child at the scene who was saved by Ibarra and the elderly driver behind the wheel of the SUV walked away without a scratch.
The parade continued a little late with an alternate route.
Police are investigating why the driver lost control of the car. So far, he has not been brought up on any charges.
Ibarra is an Iraq and Afghanistan war veteran and former honoree of the parade.
