An off-duty Eastchester officer pleaded guilty Wednesday to a second-degree manslaughter charge in the shooting death of a 27-year-old man.
Police say the shooting, which happened at about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday at 17 Albert Place in New Rochelle, was accidental.
According to police, Officer James Pileggi, a seven-year veteran, was showing off a laser sighting device on his Glock pistol to Andre Everett when it discharged. Everett was struck in the neck and pronounced dead at the hospital.
Pileggi has been suspended by the Eastchester Police Department. He was released on $50,000 bail and is due back in court Nov. 19.
