An Eastchester grocery store is closing, much to the chagrin of loyal shoppers.
Acme announced it is closing four locations this fall, including the Eastchester store by Nov. 4.  It will also close three stores in New Jersey by Oct. 2.
The company acquired the location on White Plains Road in 2015 during A&P's liquidation.
An Acme spokesperson explained the decision in a statement, saying, "Like all retailers, we are constantly evaluating our store portfolio and have to look at every angle of the business.  These stores have not met our goals for a number of years and we have made the decision to deploy the team and resources to other locations to serve our customers."

Pat Gallo, of Eastchester, says the store’s closure will be a problem since there will only be one grocery store left in town
Shoppers tell News 12 that they are also worried about the fate of the store’s employees.

An Acme spokesperson says the company is working with affected associate and labor unions, with the goal of placing as many employees as possible at other nearby locations. They did say that some layoffs are likely.
Acme Markets currently has 168 locations. A company representative says they are unaware of what may move into the Eastchester building when Acme closes.
