An Eagle Scout is commemorating the memory of fallen Spring Valley firefighter Jared Lloyd.
Columbian Fire Engine Company No. 1 has the names of the members who have passed away on display – the last name is fallen hero Jared Lloyd.
Lloyd died last March while trying to rescue senior citizens from a fire.
Now, thanks to Eagle Scout Kenny Kowalski, there is "Path of Heroes" in honor of Lloyd.
It took months of planning, design and fundraising to create the special walkway.  The engine company says the path has brick paving stones that lead to the memorial in the front of the fire station.
Kenny, a high school senior, is also a volunteer firefighter at New City, so he knows the dangers of the job.
"I'm also a first responder myself and I really connected with him. Being a new firefighter, I really wanted to do something in his honor," he says.
Reginald Anderson, the president of the Columbian Fire Engine company No. 1, says Kenny is helping Lloyd's memory live on at the firehouse forever.
"We can't thank him enough. With this we now consider Kenny part of our family, and what he has done for Jared memory," says Anderson.
The project was about $1,300 and Kenny had an extra $600 that he donated back to the firehouse.
