The messy commute Monday morning was the result of a 19-year-old?s DUI accident that left four of his passengers with serious injuries, police say.
The accident occurred on the westbound side of the Cross County Parkway near the Saw Mill River Parkway in Yonkers. According to officials, the accident involved one car driven by Charles Vazquez and took place at around 4:30 a.m.
Officials say a total of five people were in the car. Three of the people were taken to Westchester Medical Center and are in stable condition. The other two people were taken to Jacobi Medical Center, but their conditions are not yet known.
Police say the group was coming home from a bar in the Bronx.
The westbound side of the parkway was closed approximately five hours and has since reopened.
Vasquez is being treated at Jacobi Medical Center and is in police custody.
