Driver seriously injured when garbage truck crushes car
An Orange County man is fighting for his life after a garbage truck slammed into his car Monday morning.
Ramapo police say a 34-year-old electrician was driving down Route 59 when a garbage truck traveling northbound went over the double yellow, striking his car head-on.

"The momentum of the crash propelled the garbage truck and the car into a parking lot adjacent to Route 59, which is where they both came to rest," says Chief Brad Weidel, of the Ramapo Police Department.

The Countywide Carting truck landed on top of the unrecognizable Ford Focus.
When first responders arrived, they found the driver of that car trapped inside.

"They had to use the Jaws of Life to cut the car apart basically to extract him out of the vehicle," says Weidel.

Police say the driver from Warwick suffered multiple significant injuries. He was taken by ambulance to Hackensack Medical Center, where he is in critical condition.

The other driver walked away unharmed.
This is the third accident involving a garbage truck in the town of Ramapo in less than a week.
Last Wednesday, a truck plowed into a utility pole in Montebello, sending one person to the hospital. On that same day, a garbage truck struck a metal bridge in Hillburn.

"It is kind of unusual that we had the three crashes, and hope we don't have any more," says Weidel.

Countywide Carting tells News 12 that the driver of the truck worked for the company for the past couple of years and has never had an accident.
