Transgendered community activists protested outside the White Plains County Office building Friday in response to a drag show featuring members of the county Legislature. The drag show took place Thursday night when county legislators dressed in drag and preformed a musical number from ?Gypsy? to entertain Yonkers seniors at a local Polish community center. Members of the transgendered community say the dance number adds to the misunderstanding and discrimination transgendered people face everyday.?To see them cavorting about in [a] mockery of people like me was completely and totally shocking,? says Joann Prinzivalli, of the New York Transgender Rights Organization. ?I was outraged.? Country Legislator Ken Jenkins, one of the performers, says the musical was not intended to offend anyone. The transgendered group says it?s seeking wider legal rights for its members.
