President Donald Trump’s decision to end DACA is leaving the so-called dreamers across the country desperate for answers.

Employees at Neighbors Link, a law practice in Mount Kisco, say they are making and fielding hundreds of calls to and from dreamers in Westchester County, many of whom are terrified in the wake of President Trump’s decision.

Attorney Elizabeth Mastropolo says people are asking her what it means and what effect it will have on them.  She says there is little they can do as they wait for Congress to take action.

Mastropolo says some DACA recipients do have a chance to renew their permit, but they have to act fast.

"For people who have DACA now and are up for renewal between Sept. 5 and March 5, 2018, those people can file one extension,” says immigration attorney Karin Anderson Ponzer. "It is very urgent. Everything has to be in by Oct. 5. That is a hard deadline.”

Ponzer calls the president’s decision disheartening, a profound injustice and a shocking betrayal of American values, but she says giving up is not an option.
