A so-called "Dreamer" from Pearl River says attending the State of the Union on Tuesday was life-changing, even though some Democrats say President Donald Trump is holding them hostage.
Hugo Acosta-Mazariego attended the address as a special guest of Rep. Nita Lowey. He says that although the president seems to be stirring the political pot as the deadline to fix Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA looms, he is optimistic because of the people he met in Washington, D.C.
"I had no idea there was that many people really fighting for us," Acosta-Mazariego "It was shocking the amount of support we really have from a lot of Democrats and some Republicans as well."
The deadline to replace DACA with a legislative fix is March 5.
