There were very strong winds coming off the Long Island Sound as the tropical storm traveled through the Sound Shore area.
Huge trees snapped like twigs bringing down power lines with them in numerous neighborhoods.

Many roads are blocked off with debris scattered everywhere making it hard to get around. Many traffic lights are also not working.
An entire telephone pole snapped at its base and was left hanging low on the ground - held up solely by sturdy electric wires - on West Street near Harrison Avenue. Beyond that, a large tree fell off a corner property and crashed through a metal fence onto West Street as well.
First responders had their hands full trying to answer dozens of calls for help.
People said it was frightening to hear the sounds of the storm tearing through their neighborhoods as well as watching the destruction.
Mamaroneck is split into a village, town. According to the Con Edison outage map, there are a little more than 4,200 without power in the village and just under 3,700 without power in the town, that's basically half of the residents in the dark.
