A documentary filmmaker captured a turbulent time in Yonkers in the 1980s over the fight for racial integration, and the film premieres on public television Friday.

Bill Kavanagh?s film ?Brick by Brick? is also being shown at a special screening in Yonkers. While living in Yonkers in the late 1980s, Kavanagh was drawn into capturing the conflict over the landmark racial discrimination case. Yonkers was under a federal order to integrate its black and white neighborhoods and its schools. The documentary chronicles the struggle for racial integration in the city.

Kavanagh says he hopes people come away with the understanding that civil rights and issues of race are not in the past. He says civil rights are something that still has to be worked for in society.
