The town of Wawayanda is considering plans for a new waste station and several industrial warehouses, but not everyone is on board.
“The decisions in this room gave me a COPD diagnosis and asthma at just 30 years old,” said Norma Jean Martine.
Those concerns are highlighted with others in several environmental documentary videos posted on Instagram.
Activists say residents didn’t want the CPV power plant the town approved several years ago and now don’t want the proposed industrial projects for the Dolsontown Corridor project either.
“The town of Wawayanda keeps putting these dirty, polluting projects on the border of the city of Middletown,” said Martine. “This project will have hundreds of diesel trucks coming in and out of the property every single day, which will further impact air quality.”
Wawayanda Supervisor Denise Quinn says the projects are before the planning board and despite opposition from some, other residents support the plans.
