It became legal to sell certain fireworks in Rockland in 2015, but medical professionals say just because they're legal doesn't mean they're safe.

"They're so dangerous you could lose fingers, which I've seen," says Dr. Simon Li. "You could lose eyes, which I've seen."

Dr. Li, a pediatrician with Boston Children's Health Physicians, is warning parents this July 4th holiday that fireworks are too unpredictable to give to children. He says even a sparkler can reach 1,200 degrees.

"You think it's super safe. Well, they're not. Not even close to being safe," he says.

Dr. Li says if fireworks must be brought into a home, adults should keep them away from children.
