With a smartphone and $2, residents of some Bronx communities can now take a ride on Citi Bike's dockless bicycles.
Citi Bike is deploying 200 of them to Fordham, East Tremont and Belmont for a four-month trial program.
Officials will factor in the pilot program's ridership numbers to decide whether the bikes will remain permanently.
"Definitely hopes it becomes permanent," says Bronx cyclist Peter Rosario. "I am happy we can now ride around the Bronx, and we can commute with ride shares."
NYCHA residents and SNAP recipients are eligible for a steeply discounted $5 monthly subscription.
