Do you get enough vitamin D?
A new report says that most people aren't getting enough of a very important supplement to keep themselves healthy.
According to the National Institutes of Health, one out of three Americans aren't getting enough vitamin D in their diet. Low levels of vitamin D can cause bones to weaken, and increase the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, dementia and certain types of cancer.
The good news is that the best way to get vitamin D is by simply going outside.
Vitamin D is called the sunshine vitamin because the supplement, unlike other vitamins and minerals, doesn't always come from food. The best source of this supplement is the sun.
You can also get vitamin D in oily fish, fortified milk, even egg yolks. Doctors recommend people from one years of age to 70 get 600 international units a day of vitamin D to get the full benefits.
