Disturbing statements prompt investigation at Eastchester Middle School
School officials and parents in Eastchester are alarmed about statements made by students over a course of time that were threatening in nature.
Eastchester Schools Superintendent Dr. Robert Glass sent a letter out to families yesterday saying, in part, "We are writing to inform you of an incident that occurred today in Eastchester Middle School. No weapons were involved and no one was injured, nor was anyone in danger at any time. However, school administrators were made aware of some concerning statements by students. These statements were taken very seriously. Students' families, the school security officer and law enforcement were notified immediately. A threat assessment was conducted to ensure that no weapons were present and that all school occupants remained safe. No further details can be provided at this time, as the matter is under investigation."
Glass tells News 12 he's looking into how long it took for the students to speak up about what they were hearing in the hallways.
This comes one week after the Oxford, Michigan, school shooting that hit close to home for the Eastchester superintendent. "Our hearts go out to those at Oxford, I've lived and worked there for many years within about 10 or 15 miles of that site, so I'm familiar with it. I think the thing that you try to learn is that you realize that when something like that hits closer to home, that the vigilance is really important."
Glass says it's critical that students and the community as a whole be prepared, be vigilant and speak up whenever something doesn't look or sound right.
