A Mount Vernon assistant basketball coach is being criticized for calling out the Black Lives Matter movement.
A screenshot sent by a viewer to News 12 shows a post from Paul Roland's Facebook account that says, “If you need to know your life matter individually…GROW THE **** UP.” The post on Facebook has since been removed.
The superintendent of Mount Vernon schools responded to Roland’s remarks this afternoon in a statement that said, ”The individual, who the district does not have a formalized relationship with, will not be returning in any capacity to the Mount Vernon City School District.”
The statement further calls Roland’s comments “offensive and inappropriate and do not live up to the standard that we have set for our students and staff.”
As of July 28, the president of the Eastchester Little League says Roland is no longer affiliated with the team after stepping away following his offensive remarks. The president also mentioned that Roland's comments do not align with what the team stands for.
News 12 has reached out to Roland for comment but has not yet received a response.
