Denzel Washington gives back to his alma mater
Actor Denzel Washington and his wife, Pauletta, were at Mount Vernon High School on Friday to award scholarships for scientific research.
Every year, the Hollywood couple awards scholarships to college students for scientific research. The recipients are presented with their awards at city schools throughout the country.
This year?s two recipients, who are from Los Angeles, helped the Washingtons encourage inner-city youths to consider careers in medicine and neuroscience.
?A lot of these young kids don't think that they have that opportunity, so they get to see young people like themselves. Maybe spark an idea in their minds,? said Denzel Washington.
The award-winning actor urged the students at Mount Vernon High School, his alma mater, to apply for his scholarships.
