A dentist from Warwick is scrambling to reapply for the Paycheck Protection Program.
Bills piled up quickly for Slavko Duzdevich's Manhattan dentist office. It was mandated to close, and he says it cost him $400,000 in revenue.
He applied for the Paycheck Protection Program but was denied.
"Huge businesses who don't need the money got money, but businesses like mine... They didn't get anything, either," he says.
PPP loans provide funding that can be fully forgiven to cover costs, rent and payroll to businesses struggling to survive the pandemic.
The Chase denial showed no way to reapply. Calls to the bank pointed the dentist to the Small Business Administration, which funds the loan, while the SBA sent him back to the lender.
News 12 reached out to the SBA and Chase. The SBA tells News 12 it only funds the money. Approval happens through the lender and appeals must be made with the bank, or people can reapply with a different lender.
Chase wouldn't comment on specific applications but agreed to assign someone to help the Warwick dentist reapply. He was contacted by Chase as promised two days after News 12 called.
Those who need help with the application process can contact the Small Business Development Center for help.
The deadline to apply for the Paycheck Protection Program is Aug. 8.
