Democrat Ken Jenkins won a special election held in Yonkers Tuesday.
For six weeks, Jenkins and Republican candidate Cicely Greaves-Vega have been campaigning to fill the seat left open by former Yonkers Legislator Andrea Stewart-Cousins, who is now a state senator in Albany. Jenkins is the head of the Yonkers Democratic Party and says his on-the-job experience makes him uniquely qualified. He says he is very excited to begin working on the County Board of Legislators.
Some of the issues Jenkins plans to address as legislator include education and crime. Jenkins will fill the remainder of Stewart-Cousins? term on the County Legislature, which ends in the fall. He says he plans to run for re-election in November.
