Defense releases video, 911 call in Perez's death case
Video from inside a Mount Kisco Laundromat and the 911 call an illegal immigrant made on his last night alive were released by the defense in the case implicating a police officer.
According to the 911 call, Rene Perez complained of stomach pains and told the operator he was at the Laundromat on April 28. Perez had a history of drunk 911 calls to the police. Mount Kisco Police Officer George Bubaris responded with two other officers. Surveillance video shows Perez inside and a police vehicle pulling in.
According to court documents obtained by the Journal News, Bubaris reportedly ?went out hunting? for Perez and gave him a ride up Byram Lake Road. Defense attorney Ed Hayes says the comments from the statement, if Bubaris did in fact say them, do not prove any guilt, nor does the video.
Perez was later discovered on Byram Lake Road in Bedford. He eventually died of internal injuries. Bubaris was indicted on manslaughter charges in Perez?s death. The indictment does not specify Bubaris? role in the incident.Bubaris, 30, pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree manslaughter, unlawful imprisonment and official misconduct. He has been released on $100,000 bail and suspended without pay.
