New York State environmental officials are investigating a strange perfume-like odor in Orange County and other surrounding areas.
The Department of Environmental Conservation staff has since determined that the smell is strongest in Orange County, indicating a localized source.
It comes after county officials received several reports of an odd smell in Cornwall, Washingtonville and New Windsor.
Police say they’ve checked with several businesses in the area where the odor was reported but did not find any spill or leak that could have caused it.
The Orange County Emergency Management commissioner has also stated that the smell appears to be dissipating since no complaints came in Friday.
Orange County's health commissioner says her office is assessing the situation and there is currently no known public health threat.
