DEC holds meeting on proposed biofuel plant
Dozens voiced their opinions Wednesday night about a proposed plant that would turn waste into fuel in Rockland County.
The proposed New Planet energy biofuel plant would be built in an industrial area off Holt Drive in Stony Point.
The plan calls for raw garbage to be delivered by truck during off-peak hours. The majority of it would then be converted to fuel at the facility or recycled off site.
The state Department of Environmental Conservation held a public hearing on the plan Wednesday at Fieldstone Middle School.
DEC officials say that the plan is still in its beginning stages. There still needs to be an environmental impact study and then the public will be able to comment on the plan once again.
