A Harrison man was killed by gunfire on the streets of Mount Vernon Monday night.
Police say 30-year-old Dean Daniels was found bleeding from a gunshot wound on the corner of East Prospect and Park avenues at around 6 p.m. EMTs tried to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Less than a half-hour later, shots rang out again not far from the first shooting. Investigators say someone fired several shots at a house at 174 Beachwood Drive. No one was hurt, but people in the neighborhood were shaken up.
Mayor Ernie Davis was at the hospital with Daniels' family as he succumbed to his injuries. He says the bullet pierced Daniels' lung.
Mount Vernon police are not saying if there have been any arrests or whether the shootings are related, but they do believe that Daniels was targeted.
Daniels' mother, Paula Brown, says her son was disabled after suffering a brain injury as a child. He was in the neighborhood at the time of the shooting to visit a friend of his.
