The Mount Vernon man accused in the fatal shooting of a 13-year-old girl on New Year's Eve pleaded not guilty inside a White Plains courtroom today.
Prosecutors say David Hardy, 21, was involved in a gang-related shooting gone bad. They say Hardy fired multiple shots on East Third Street in Mount Vernon, but struck Shemoya Mackenzie who was in the passenger seat of her mother's car.
Prosecutors say his intended target was Prince Scott, who was shot in the arm and survived.
Mackenzie was up-and-coming basketball star.
Hardy has been held in county jail without bail. His lawyer insists he innocent and is concerned about getting a fair trial.
"Like any young man, he's saddened and shocked that he's being accused," says Deveraux Cannick.
