A family and a community is in mourning after a woman was found dead inside her apartment Sunday morning.
Detectives are investigating who killed the mother of six inside her Belmont home.
A vigil now stands outside her home with candles remembering the victim, 40-year-old Luz Perez.
News 12 is told Perez was found dead Sunday with trauma to the head and body inside her apartment along 187 Street and Bathgate Avenue. Police say two of her young children were home at the time when police officers made the grisly discovery.
News 12 spoke to the victim’s daughter, who says her mother had only been living in the first-floor apartment for a few months. News 12 is also told Perez was married, but according to her daughter she had an order of protection against her husband. She claims despite the order he would visit her from time to time.
So far, authorities have not identified a person of interest and no arrests have been made.
The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
