Westchester District Attorney Janet DiFiore is investigating the possibility of questionable county board spending on a credit card that is paid for by taxpayers.
Board Chairman Bill Ryan's chief advisor Gary Kriss allegedly bought thousands of dollars worth of computer printers and software, which were sent to his home. Investigators say charges also include cell phone and BlackBerry usage.
DiFiore's office is demanding a hard drive from Kriss' office computer, receipts, bills and credit cards. However, Ryan has said either he authorized the purchases or the board gave the green light to them.
Legislator George Oros denies that claim. "It's bad enough the public was kept in the dark, but we as legislators were also kept in the dark about this outrageous spending," he said.
Oros wants Kriss to take an immediate unpaid leave from his $149,000 a year job. Oros is also calling for quarterly reports from Ryan to fellow legislators about how every dime is spent. The board is cooperating with the investigation, but is not commenting.
