Gov. Andrew Cuomo is under fire for some large campaign contributions made just days after he vetoed two bills involving the community of Kiryas Joel.
Activist Emily Convers said on Tuesday that Cuomo was bought out to veto the two bills that aimed to stop plans of expanding the Hasidic village.
State records show that in the days following the vetoes, Cuomo's campaign took in about $250,000 from companies allegedly linked to Kiryas Joel.
Many of the businesses trace back to Hasidic developer Mayer Hirsch, Convers said.
One of the largest single contributions was for $50,000. It came from Woodland Estates LLC, which is also connected to a home on Hayes Court in Kiryas Joel. Records show the property is owned by Hirsch.
A representative for the village says it has no knowledge of the campaign deposits.
Calls made by News 12 to the governor's office have not been returned.
