New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo is reviewing a request by the family of a slain Mount Vernon police officer for a state and federal investigation.

Mount Vernon Police Detective Christopher Ridley was mistaken for a criminal and fatally shot by four Westchester County cops when he tried to break up an assault on the streets of White Plains in January. Witnesses testified Ridley did not obey the officers? requests to drop his weapon.

A grand jury found that there was not enough evidence to indict the county police officers. Many community leaders joined the Ridley family to demand a new investigation, claiming the grand jury?s investigation was not thorough. The United Black Clergy believes the report is a collaboration and a cover-up.

United Black Clergy leader Reverend Darrin Moore wants a trial so everyone can hear from the witnesses and see the evidence presented to the grand jury, since it was confidential.

Mount Vernon Mayor Clinton Young agrees the case should be looked at closer.

?As the mayor I'm going to be pushing for a review of the policies and the practices,? says Young.
