Residents in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of New Rochelle will soon have a new place to relax and play outdoors: Heritage Park.
News 12 is told the more than 1-acre playground serves as the final phase in the downtown revitalization of Heritage Homes, a nearby affordable housing complex.
“Heritage Park is the latest example of how the Downtown Revitalization Initiative is making targeted investments in cities, towns and villages across the state to build stronger economies and more vibrant communities," Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a release. "By creating walkable and active communities, and improving the aesthetic of our downtowns, we are helping cities like New Rochelle attract new businesses, residents and visitors."
Pearl Quarles, of New Rochelle, believes the park is just what the neighborhood needs.
“There is always a need for creative play for our children. And if they don’t have a place of their own, they’ll be in the streets in great danger,” says Quarles.
Heritage Park is expected to be completed within a few months.
