Cross-burning victims sue school district
The victims of a cross-burning incident in Cortlandt are suing their school district for allegedly mishandling race issues in a local school.
The lawsuit claims officials at Hendrick Hudson High School in Montrose gave preferential treatment to students based on race, leading to black students receiving unfair punishments.
The school district has dismissed the allegations, saying it does not tolerate hate.
A cross was burned on Clara and Wesley Artope's lawn on Nov. 21, 2007 after their son, Timothy, was involved in a fight at Hendrick Hudson High School with two female students.
