First responders located the body of a missing man in Greenwood Lake on Wednesday.
Thomas Howley, the mayor of Greenwood Lake, said crews recovered the body around 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. He was first reported missing Tuesday afternoon, according to police.
While divers from the New York and New Jersey State police departments were in the water, Howley said Greenwood Lake Surface patrol officers were able to locate the 66-year-old victim's body.
He said they were able to do so because they were positioned in and around the inlets and beaches of Greenwood Lake and saw that the body surfaced to the top of the water.
Howley added that crews removed the body from the water and are now waiting for the medical examiner to handle their portion of the operation.
He explained what the next steps are in the investigation to News 12 crews.
"The victim's family is in the process of being notified by New Jersey authorities because he does come from New Jersey, but it's a tragic ending to a tragic situation," Howley said.
