The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed the life of a man who dedicated his life to public service.
Charles "Charlie" Bullock joined the Central Nyack Fire Department back in 1968 and rose through the ranks to become chief there in 1978.
He was the first African American to hold that position ever in the county.
Members, friends and family remember him for always trying to help others and his pure athleticism.
Bullock also served with Clarkstown Police Department for several months in 1965 before joining the Palisades Parkway Police and then becoming a state trooper.
After retiring from the force, many remember his welcoming smile and personality when he worked at Costco.
News 12 was told there will be a private ceremony Wednesday to honor Bullock's life and legacy.
