One of the major impacts of the coronavirus pandemic is the that the cost of food at grocery stores is on the rise.
Willie Ryan, the owner of Roosters, says prices are increasing in part because the coronavirus has thrown the food supply chain in the nation out of whack - especially at meat and poultry plants.
"The processing facilities are not built to only make consumer products," he says.
Ryan says the time it takes them to retool has created a bit of backlog and a new system that’s dictating the greater the demand has created higher prices.
"I believe is it’s going to get a little worse in the next four weeks, possibly stabilize in six to eight weeks and then come back down," he says.
One area where there is likely an increase in the supermarket is the meat department.
Ryan tells News 12 that the costs of some meats have increased more than 200% in the last two months alone,
"The price is astronomical," he says. "We tried not to pass too much of that on, but fortunately we don’t have a choice."
And neither do some customers, who surprisingly say they don’t mind forking over a bit of extra cash.
