County readies for Empire State Games opening
Crews are feverishly working to apply finishing touches at the Kensico Dam Plaza for the Empire State Games opening ceremony Wednesday.
Westchester County has spent about $3 million preparing for 6,000 of the state's best amateur athletes and an expected 10,000 spectators.
While the Olympics-style games are bringing a great source of pride and the hope of an economic boost to Westchester, it's also expected to cause headaches for drivers.
The Bronx River Parkway will close in both directions from 4 p.m. to midnight from Virginia Road, exit 26, in North White Plains to Kensico Circle. The Taconic State Parkway will close both ways between Lakeview Avenue in Valhalla to Kensico Circle. Broadway will also close in both directions between North Kensico Road in Valhalla to Route 22 in North Castle.
The southbound Route 22 exit ramp will also close between Route 22 in North Castle and Kensico Circle.
Bee-Line buses will make detours and run on alternate routes starting around 5 p.m.
Ceremony ticket holders will park at Westchester Community College and take shuttle buses to the Kensico Dam Plaza.
News 12 Westchester will have live coverage of the opening ceremony at 6:30 p.m.
