Cortlandt uses email address to report potholes
Potholes aren't making driving around the Hudson Valley very easy, but the town of Cortlandt wants to make it easy to report the road craters.
"I actually have a neck ache from going through potholes," says Eileen Stockel, of White Plains. "It's disgusting."
Town officials say this winter is one of the worst in recent years and that translates to more potholes.
"The frost is very deep in the ground," says Jeff Coleman, of Cortlandt's Department of Environmental Services. "In springtime, the water starts to want to come out and it's manifesting itself in potholes."
Phones have been ringing off the hook with reports of potholes. Drivers have also taken to the Internet because for the first time, Cortlandt is taking pothole complaints by email at potholes@townofcortlandt.com.
That is how road crews recently learned of potholes on South Hill Road and Arthur Street. They filled the holes with a temporary "Cold Patch" type asphalt product. When the weather gets warmer, they will have to fill many of the same holes with hot asphalt.
The town urges patience, saying that crews are working to fix the potholes.
