Camp Smith in Cortlandt has become one of the major locations for hurricane relief donations in New York.

Thousands of donations have come in from across the state after Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the Empire State Relief and Recovery Effort for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Cleaning supplies, baby food, nonperishables and much more are sorted at the New York Army National Guard base.

Major James Greene, the officer in charge of task force donations, says Camp Smith is responsible for the collection of donations and then moving those donations to John F. Kennedy International Airport for delivery. He says dozens of flights have already went off with donations to the islands.

"The mission currently, we don't know when it ends," Major Greene says. "But we are here and in it for the long haul."
