Coroner: Heavy D died from pulmonary embolism
Rapper and Mount Vernon native Heavy D died due to a pulmonary embolism and deep leg vein thrombosis, the Los Angeles coroner announced today.
The 44-year-old performer, whose real name was Dwight Errington, collapsed outside his Beverly Hills home Nov. 8.
Officials say weight and a transcontinental jet flight were also factors in the rapper's sudden death.
Heavy D was behind some of hip-hop's most successful hits and he inspired some of the industry's biggest stars, many of whom attended his funeral in Mount Vernon.
