Cops: Yonkers 'stabbing victim' cut himself
A man who was brought to the hospital with a stab wound may have been the one who pulled a knife during a fight, according to Yonkers police.
The mother of Shane Carter, 22, says her son was attacked by two men, one with a gun and the other with a knife around 11 p.m. yesterday near 575 Saw Mill River Road.
Octavia Johnson says during the struggle, Carter tried to take the knife and was stabbed in the hand and nearly had his thumb severed. "He had to literally run for his life around the corner all the way over here with an artery severed to get help," says Johnson.
However, according to investigators, Carter gave conflicting stories about what exactly happened. They now believe that Carter pulled a knife to defend himself and cut himself during the fight. Police did say one shot was fired and one shell casing was recovered.
Police say a female friend of Carter's was also involved, and they are looking into what started the fight.
Johnson says that friends in the building took Carter to Lawrence Hospital. He is expected to be OK.
Cops are now on the hunt for the two men. No arrests have been made.
