Cops: Gang violence claims life of Yonkers man
Officials say the growing gang war in Yonkers has turned deadly after 20-year-old Christoper Cokley died Tuesday of his injuries stemming from a July 4 shooting.
Cokley's death is part of what police are calling eight gang-related shootings in the city since Independence Day. The most recent was Tuesday at O'Boyle Park and injured a 22-year-old man.
The rash of shootings has forced the cancellation of at least one community activity. Midnight basketball at the Nepperhan Community Center has been suspended for the first time since it started in 1995. Community center leaders say they fear for the safety of the children.
