Cops arrest driver in crash that killed two friends
Police in Rockland say a young driver is to blame for killing two of his friends after getting into crash in Garnerville Saturday.
Police say when they came upon the scene on Route 202, the car was turned sideways in the road and there were three victims in the car. Two needed to be extricated and were in serious condition at the time, say police.
West Haverstraw firefighters got the men out and called for a STAT flight medivac helicopter. However, due to the dense fog the helicopter was grounded.
Police arrested the driver, who was conscious. The two others later died. All three men are from Spring Valley. Emergency workers say that stretch of road has seen numerous fatalities over the years. A resident says first responders to the scene suspect alcohol was involved.
