Cops: $10K stolen in New Rochelle robbery
Nearly $10,000 in cash was stolen during a robbery in New Rochelle Wednesday morning.
Police say a courier was carrying money to deposit from the Big City Global Auto Parts store on Cliff Street at around 8:30 a.m. One of two men in a black Chevy Blazer jumped the courier from behind and stole the bag of cash.
The suspects took off, but a witness followed the car and called police.
The witness, Johnny Gutierrez, says he wasn't sure what was going on at first, but when someone called for him to chase the suspect, he responded.
After traveling about a half-mile, the two men stopped their SUV on Pelham Road. One reportedly got out to confront Gutierrez with a baseball bat.
Police say they then took one of the men into custody. They are still seeking the other.
There is no word yet if the money was recovered, but no one was seriously hurt during the robbery, police say.
